 Dec. 21 Open Line

It happened to me again. I just went into town to buy a 12-pack. on my way home this UFO, or whatever it was, ran me into the ditch. some creepy little gray dudes with big black eyes got out, took my beer, and took off straight up in the air. I was terrified. It took me a while to get out of the ditch before I could get home. I don’t understand why my wife won’t believe me.Will you allow a happy birthday to a lady who will be 95 in a few days? you would not print my other happy birthdays and I do not understand why not. It is a lot better than printing ugly name-calling.There is no reason this town should shoot down the sales tax. It is about time that we did something about the schools. I challenge you to walk into Turner and tell me there is nothing wrong with the building. It baffles me how ignorant people are when it comes to this sales tax proposal. It is 1 percent. If you buy a $1,000 television, you can afford to pay an extra $10. The tax doesn’t apply to groceries or essentials, just to luxury items like fast food. There is no reason not to pass it. I just love the new gaping mouth for Open Line Online. If you could include bad breath, it would be perfect.I think the J-C should do away with Open Line. It’s nothing but negativity and cowardly. maybe everyone complaining on here could take the time this Christmas to do something positive instead of complaining. do something positive people. as Christmas approaches, we all hope that posters will temper the smugness, soften the certainty, and cool the rhetoric. Let’s have some rest and peace. all of the vitriol, the hyperbole, and the venom in the screeds posted online may come back to bite all of us in the form of hatred and even violence. Words do have consequences, sometimes years after the words are written or spoken. Let’s cool the rhetoric. What are you talking about, when you refer to the Cass County basher? how do you know it’s one person? I have written some negative things about Cass County and I am not the only one. so you should refer to us as Cass County bashers. The things I posted about are “not” libel or slanderous but gospel truth. Truth sometimes hurts. even at this late date it is not too late to allow the 36 JHS girls to acquire some sense of personal and social responsibility. This can be done by giving them the opportunity to pay for all of the costs associated with the upcoming events. Protect them from the corrosive effects of the bigotry of low expectations, something that has afflicted them for too long. you can’t give schools enough money. We need to demand drug testing for these high school teens that are pregnant, if positive no welfare check. Take responsibility for yourselves.a vote for Ron Paul is a vote to end the Afghan war. Support the only real peace candidate.People have short memories, just back in the ‘80s the fear was the ozone and global cooling. We did away with freon in air conditioners and refrigerators because of the fears.Simple-minded people are the ones who don’t believe in global warming. What about the ones who go on facts? We are going on the 13th straight year that the world is cooling. Average global temperature has dropped every year since 1998. The fact that the Earth has been cooling for 13 straight years tells me that there is no global warming.I see where Newt Gingrich is now advocating that he would have Capitol Police and U.S. marshals arrest judges who made decisions that he did not like. great idea Newt. I am sure that everyone in the country shares your views. maybe there are some surplus brown shirts and jackboots that you could buy at reasonable prices to outfit your new Newt police force. oh yeah, you are right, boo hoo to the farmer. he pays help in cash so they don’t have to pay taxes. he does not have to license equipment that does more damage to a road than my car whose license keeps going up. And they do not feed you, they ship their corn to Mexico. enough of how you feed me. how about you get a job the year round? It seems the Cass County Basher is getting a bit testy. maybe he ought to run for public office and get his opinions out in the light of day instead of the dark, anonymous cavern that he inhabits.those in glass houses should not throw stones. “I’d like to see a comparison of the pregnancy rates between Jacksonville High School and Turner versus Routt and our Saviours. My guess is would be that the public school system has failed us once again. Congratulations taxpayers, your money is being wasted.”In a sadly perverse way, Obama is the best thing that ever happened to this country. he has personally awakened previously complacent, disinterested-in-politics citizens, because we are now saddled with a prezzy whose every utterance and action needs to be scrutinized very closely. We are wide awake and fully engaged, and that is bad news indeed for Obama.I see the great governor of Texas has chosen to draw his pension while also drawing his salary for governor. I can’t understand how you can do that at the same time; but hey; another Republican value. do as I say not as I do.I’d like to say to the couple at Kottage Kafe who paid for our breakfast, thank you. you made our day and we will pass it on. God bless you, Merry Christmas.Read the article in the paper about the man who was scammed out of $10,000. I was scammed out of $6,000. The guy was a smooth, smooth talker. I was taken in. It was the first and the last time.I see all the call-ins today about Alexander Hamilton. was he the guy who started Hamilton’s catering here in Jacksonville? That’s right, I’m a Republican.I see a comment that says, “the buck stops with Bush.” how true that is. The country had money before Bush got into office. Once Bush got in, the buck stopped with him.If I had $10,000 there is no amount of money that would sweet talk me into giving it up. Nobody could talk me into that scam that man got into. I only wish I had the $10,000 he lost. What a sad story.I’m sure glad the Republicans had the smarts to go ahead and make this pipeline thing a reality. all you pinheads quit griping about Obama. If you had read about him in the first place, he wouldn’t be here to begin with.I want to thank the person who set it straight about the baby Jesus on the back page. I wish that you could send someone out to Southbrook to take pictures of the decorated homes. They are just beautiful.welcome home all Iraqi veterans and all veterans around the world. I hope we have destroyed the weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. The cost of U.S. lives and the money, I hope the veterans of Afghanistan will be home soon. Sadaam is dead, bin Laden is dead, mission accomplished. Quit wasting American lives, bring everyone home and take care of our own country. Merry Christmas.I hope on this Christmas that we all learn what Jesus wants us to. That is to love each other no matter the food we eat, the color of our skin, or the clothes we wear or the words we speak. It’s something to think about this time of year, and all year.Someone in Open Line said we’d be back in Iraq in about six months, I bet it’ll be sooner than that.I was uptown on Andy Ezard’s beautiful square, all kinds of people were there. all the parking spaces were full, which is awesome. but, where were The Salvation Army bell ringers? They know stores like Walmart and the other Chinese crap factories are making all the money. why didn’t you have someone up on the square? Don’t tell me you didn’t have volunteers who wouldn’t do it.If pot gets legalized, am I going to have to smell you smoking the stuff in public and have my lungs irritated? Are they going to test you and pro-rate your health insurance for what marijuana will be doing to your lungs? when I was a kid, they didn’t know what cancer was going to do. Now they know that smoking tobacco causes lung cancer and it costs our society millions of dollars. I think you’re crazy if you smoke marijuana, you don’t know what health problems you’re asking for and it’s probably like driving drunk.District 117 has loads of money. just sit down for a few minutes and go through their budget and I know you will agree with me. We don’t need to be raising taxes to throw more money at District 117 so they can find crazy ways to spend it. It’s time the JHS boy’s basketball get a coach who plays players who should play instead of those whose parents pressure them into letting them play.Jay Jamison’s column in Friday’s paper about Attorney General Eric Holder and ex-governor/senator John Coradine is one of the most insightful I have ever read. This weather is being brought to you by the Republican Committee of Misinformation and Deception. If we are going to have a week set aside in March to celebrate Vertically Challenged people, shouldn’t we also have a week set aside to celebrate those of us who are Laterally Enabled? think about the grave injustice we suffer and do something about it.Nah, you rewrote the story and changed the players, it was CNN and MSNBC commentators throwing softball, harebrained ideas at Obama. They finally all chipped in to buy him a teleprompter because they couldn’t dumb the questions down enough for him to understand them. Eric Holder has it backwards. he got his job due to racism. he is being criticized for his corrupt policies such as “Fast and Furious.”This is the Angry Taxpayer. I’d like to know why the Salvation Army, Congregational Church, and Spirit of Faith Church are providing free meals for all these moochers. these moochers need to get a job and start fending for themselves, just like all of us working people. The churches need to put a stop to these free meals.I have to agree whole heartedly, the change Beardstown is looking for starts when Chief Tom Schlueter and Mayor Walters no longer hold positions of power in this community. We also need to vote out those aldermen and women who’ve been representing no one but themselves since they got into office many years ago. We also have to encourage others to run for these positions in the community, there are still honest and good people who live here and are life long residents who care but have become apathetic since Walters and his yes-men/women city council members have been in office which now seems like forever. Before there were any subsidies for farmers, which was prior to the 1950s, did farmers grow enough food and fiber for us? Of course. And they would do it again if farm subsidies were eliminated. Remember, for most of our national existence there were no farm subsidies.Would you take the dental exam picture off your website? Too gross for words.has the program Bully Beware gone to Virginia? That school is full of bullies and nobody does anything about it. Teachers need to wake up and take control. They must be sleeping on the job.I am not down on farmers for all the government support they get to keep themselves in $50,000 trucks, super motor homes, brand new half-million dollar houses, etc. I just want some of it for myself. I want to be able to take my housing expenses off my taxes, get my fuel through a farm account, work for three or four months of the year and draw a full year’s salary. how can I sign up for that?on 12/20/11 WRMS radio DJ Randy West said he was related to Wayne Pratt, stating that both their mothers are sisters. I don’t believe I would’ve admitted that Randy.I was wondering “who” is responsible for putting the arrests for Cass County and Beardstown in the Jacksonville Journal-Courier? There have been several this week, like all weeks of the year, and I’ve noticed that they go unreported in both the Jacksonville Journal-Courier and the Cass County Star-Gazette. The path to American exceptionalism is to get to a point where we have American-Africans, American-Mexicans, American-Japanese etc. as a melting pot we accepted people from other countries and made them Americans. as policies exist presently, we have hypocrisy rather than immigration.on a scale of one to 10, Tuesday’s parting shot deserves a 12. have the Morgan County residents checked for global warming? I don’t think so. Don’t condemn FutureGen 2.0 for trying to have a clean producing power plant in Meredosia. Furthermore, Morgan County has more electricity so they can’t call and complain about FutureGen 2.0.The most beautiful, traditional Christmas card home can be seen at 160 E. Brown St. in Waverly. We went to see the Christmas lights, the ones that were in the paper, and I have something to say about them. One, Jesus is the reason for the season and two, the lights were overkill.I just want to report in on a picture that was on the back page of the paper. It was taken by Robert Leistra, it was a beautiful picture. It was of cattle grazing and it’s named “Prairie Twilight.” I do think he takes the best pictures.
